​Please find below the Notice of Election of Trustees for Matapouri and Mōkau Marae.  Below you will also find the the Election Timetable and the Trustee Nomination Form.

Please be aware that nominations must be received no later than 5pm Tuesday 14 March and that voting closes 5pm Thursday 20 April 2017

Election Services will be independently running the election on behalf of the Trust Board however Moana MacDonald and Toni Sweeney will take any extra enquiries about the process and/or updates/new registrations.

Kia Ora Whanau,

The Ngaitwai Trust Board would like to advise that we will be hosting the first Hui-a-iwi of the year on the 4th of March 2017, 8.30am, at Otetao Reti Marae in Whangaruru.  Please mark this date in your calendar, we hope you and your whanau can attend.

​A detailed agenda will be released shortly, but if you could lock this date into your calendar now and advise your whanau, that would be great.

Education: The NZQA valuation review was completed during the month and we will know the outcome of the interview in February 2017. A proposal has also been received from Northtec for the Manaaki marae contract.

Hui-A-Iwi: - Preparations for the first Hui-A-Iwi of the year will commence early February and the hui date will be notified on the NTB face-book and website pages.

Marae Reports:
Kawa: - It’s been a good Christmas with whanau staying at the marae.
Matapouri: - The Marae Committee will be holding a meeting shortly to discuss and confirm NTB Trustee nominations. One of our marae Rangatahi have released a short drone film of Matapouri on Facebook.
Mokau: - The marae hosted a couple of fund raising events which were enjoyed by everyone.
Motairehe: - Martin Cleave was the only Trustee nomination received for Motairehe marae. As a NTB Trustee he would like to focus on the areas of marine health and sustainable income’s for whanau.
Ngaiotonga: - 4 Trustee nominations were received for Ngaiotonga marae.
Ngunguru: - 4 Trustee nominations were received for Ngunguru marae.
Oakura: - 3 Trustee nominations were received for Oakura marae. The committee is carrying out maintenance on the water tanks and tree pruning.
Otetao: - Whanau were at the marae during Christmas. The committee is seeking funding to purchase kitchenware. Gary Reti was the only nomination received for Otetao marae.
Omaha: - The marae hosted Christmas at the Pa for all the tamariki. The marae is closed for whanau use during the summer. Annette Baines was the only Trustee nomination received for Omaha marae.
Pataua: - Everyone was home for Christmas and New Year. The marae committee meeting was held on 21st January 2017. Rua Munro has been elected as our marae Chairperson.
Punaruku: - 2 nominations have been received for Punaruku marae.
Tuparehuia: - 2 Trustee nominations have been received for Tuparehuia marae. The marae committee has elected a new Executive Committee.
Whananaki: - 5 Trustee nominations were received for Whananaki marae.
 
Trustee Elections: - The Trustee Election/voting process is currently underway for Ngaiotonga, Ngunguru, Oakura, Punaruku, Tuparehuia and Whananaki marae. The elected Trustees for these marae will be announced at a Special General Meeting to be held at the Trust Board on Wednesday 8th February commencing at 9:30am.

A further election process will be put in place for those marae that did not furnish a nomination.

Trustee Retirement: - Kathy Pita was acknowledged for her service to the Ngātiwai Trust Board as the Trustee Representative for Tuparehuia marae.

​Treaty Claims: -
Ngatiwai Trust Board is pushing back with the Crown regarding the Hauraki Collective seeking a taonga tuturu protocol for non-commercial redress.

The Ngātiwai Trust Board is pleased to announce that the following persons have been successful in being elected as Trustees to the Ngātiwai Trust Board:
 
Ngaiotonga:
Merepeka Henley – Trustee
Ngaio McGee - Alternate Trustee
 
Tuparehuia:
Rōpata (Robert) Diamond – Trustee
Vicki-Lee Going - Alternate Trustee
 
Punaruku:
Haydn Edmonds –Trustee
Houpeke Piripi - Alternate Trustee
 
Oakura:
Henry Murphy –Trustee
Jewel Reti - Alternate Trustee
 
Whananaki:
Kathleen Caldwell – Trustee
Allan Moore - Alternate Trustee
 
Ngunguru:
Michael Rundlett – Trustee
Riki Solomon - Alternate Trustee
 
As there was only one nomination received for the one vacancy for each of the following marae, no election was required and the respective candidate was declared unopposed:
 
Otetao:
Gary Reti – Trustee
 
Pataua:
Hori Mahanga – Trustee
 
Omaha:
Annette Baines – Trustee
 
Motairehe:
Martin Cleave – Trustee
 
Kawa:
Phillip Ngawaka – Trustee
 
An extended election process for the remaining marae is currently being worked through.
 
Congratulations to the two new trustees joining the board for the first time – Kathy Caldwell and Robert Diamond, and also to the returning Trustees.
 
We would also like to acknowledge Kathy Pita for her service to the Ngātiwai Trust Board as the representative for Tuparehuia marae.  Kathy retired from the board on the 27th of January and we mihi to Kathy and her whanau for all the great work she has done for the board over her 12 years of service.

NEW CEO APPOINTED TO THE NGĀTIWAI TRUST BOARD

The Ngātiwai Trust Board today announced the appointment of Kris MacDonald (Te Whanau a Rangiwhakaahu, Ngati Toki, Ngati Rehua, Te Aki Tai of Ngātiwai) as Chief Executive Officer.
 
Chairman, Haydn Edmonds says “The panel has interviewed some outstanding candidates during this process and we have selected who we believe is the best person to take Ngātiwai forward”.
 
“Kris is tūturu Ngātiwai and has been on this journey with us for a long time.  Kris has sat on the board for the past ten years during which time he has held the role of Deputy Chairman.  He brings vast knowledge and skills that will be beneficial in ensuring that our iwi thrives now and into the future.  Kris starts as CEO from the 1st of March 2017".
 
Kris replaces Angeline Waetford, who has been the acting CEO for the twelve months.
 
“I would like to thank and acknowledge Angeline for stepping into the role of Acting Chief Executive over the past year.  Angeline has ensured that operations of the Trust Board has maintained a high level of continuity while we worked through the process of appointing a permanent CEO.  During the past year Angeline has lead the Trust Board through some challenging operational changes which resulted in many great results across our business units.  Thank you Angeline for your hard work and dedication over the last twelve months”.
