On Tuesday the 19th of December our Ngātiwai Kaumātua embarked on a very special trip to Tawhiti Rahi / Aorangi (The Poor Knights). This was a Christmas celebration and a coming together for our Kaumātua to kōrero and enjoy spending time together. There was also another kaupapa of this trip where the Ngātiwai Kahui Kaumātua gave support, in principle, for an important project - "Mana Moana O Ngātiwai", which is a research framework that supports the reinstatement of Ngātiwai Cultural stewardship of our foreshore islands and seascape. This was truly a special day for our Kaumātua. Mauri Ora!!

On Monday the 18th of December, night before their boat trip to the Tawhiti Rahi/ Aorangi (Poor Knights), our Kaumātua gathered for a special Christmas Dinner at Oceans Tutukaka to enjoy coming together, sharing kai, kōrero and some entertainment afterwards. Some got up for a dance, some got up for a waiata, and everyone enjoyed what was a very lovely evening. Stay Native is a new start up business that connects local and international travelers to authentic indigenous people, places and experiences.
This exciting new business is the brainchild of Te Ara Armstrong, Chanelle Armstrong, Chala Chase, Eliza Leuluai and Pam Armstrong that gives travelers the opportunity to escape the normal cookie cutter tourist crowds and experiences and find something unique and personal. The tamariki of Mokau Te Kōhanga Reo have a new play space, not a playground, rather a living, growing and meaningful play space.
