COVID-19 updates 9 June 2020

We are now in Alert Level 1

We have reached a huge Milestone whanau!  Alert Level 1 sees everyone being able to return without restriction to work, school, sports and domestic travel, and you can get together with as many people as you want.

Controls at the borders remain for those entering New Zealand, including health screening and testing for all arrivals, and mandatory 14-day managed quarantine or isolation.

It’s also important that we keep the basic hygiene measures that worked so well through higher Alert Levels going. These include washing your hands and coughing or sneezing into your elbow. Remember to remain vigilant and being aware of physical distancing when out and about amongst strangers is a good habit to keep.

It is now 17 days since the last new Covid-19 case was reported in New Zealand.⁣ The total number of confirmed cases remains at 1,154. There are no additional deaths to report.⁣ There is no one in New Zealand receiving hospital-level care for COVID-19.⁣ The total number of tests completed to date is 294,848.⁣  Yesterday the Ministry of Health was very pleased to report no active cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand.

Unite against COVID-19 becomes Unite for the recovery

The official Government site for COVID-19 has changed now that New Zealand has moved down to Alert level 1. 

Their focus has shifted from keeping ourselves safe from the virus to the economic and social recovery of New Zealand. That’s why they are changing their focus – and name – to Unite for the recovery.

​The uniteforrecovery.govt.nz website is a central place for information about a range of support to help New Zealand recover from the impacts of COVID-19.

Targeted Training and Apprenticeship Fund

The government\’s billion-dollar investment to combat the rise of unemployment as a result of COVID has scrapped the fees for all apprenticeships from July 1st 2020.

Courses and training in construction, agriculture, and community work will be free for the next two-and-a-half years.

They included:

  • Agriculture, horticulture and viticulture
  • Fisheries, aquaculture, and forestry
  • Construction, including building, plumbing, and civil engineering
  • Community support, including youth work, care for elderly, counseling, mental, health, and addiction support;
  • Manufacturing and mechanical engineering and technology
  • Electrical engineering
  • Road transport
